This is on the road to TDBv2, where boxes will be distributed as pre-built OVA appliances as well as Vagrant for those who want something super-easy to start with (no Vagrant, plugins, Chef runs, etc).

This is a two-stage build. CI will build a base box, and this will be used by Vagrant for a second chef run to tweak settings for the particular environment.

Perhaps at some point in the future, the boxes can be generic enough to be used as .ova appliances without Vagrant, allowing a dependency-minimal deployment of these boxes.
Ahn apps have this already
We'll use these to release .ova appliances

Open question: How will we distribute the (large) VM images?

Also, does distributing a Lumenvox box pre-installed with get us in trouble with them?

We're not building PRISM any more, it's gone entirely.

I see no reason why shipping a VM image with Lumenvox pre-installed would cause any issues, but I will check in with them.

I intend to use Bintray to distribute the images.
